A Bracknell rapper is set to join forces with an established media company with the aim of promoting good mental health and well-being.

Nic Hoskins, 39, from Church Road is well-known in Bracknell and Crowthorne as a song-writer and MC after he released a tribute song which reached thousands of hits online.

After years of performing and recording, he is set to sign a contract with a major media label (which cannot be named yet) to produce his own song centring around mental health.

Nic, who is known by his stage name 'Flava' said: “I am really excited about this next challenge. I do a lot of music and charity work and this song and video will combine the two.

“It’s going to be something a little bit different from what I’ve done before because it will be set in a variety of public locations around Bracknell and hopefully include some local young people.

“The message is quite strong because it’s about mental health, which is something that I have gone through myself over the years.

“When I write music I try and make it something that other people can relate to.”

Nic, who currently works in Matalan within The Lexicon shopping centre wrote and produced a song in 2015 called Ten/10 You Were My Best Friend as a tribute to his dad who died after battling cancer for several years.

He has appeared on TV shows over the years including Britain’s Got Talent and the X Factor.

He added: “It’s looking to hit over half a million views when both the song and music video is finished. This has taken the best part of eight months to get everybody talking. I’ve be working with Samaritans and Mind, and we have all been working together for mental health. That’s a very important thing for me and obviously a lot of people.

“I’m known across Crowthorne and now I live in Bracknell for writing music and when I can I love to do things for charity.”

“One of the biggest songs I did was Life is a Rollercoaster for Help the Heroes which got 200,000 hits at the time.”

“I try and tie in a lot of charity work with what I do especially when it comes to music.”
