A plan has been submitted for building work on the sorely missed John Nike Leisure Complex in Bracknell.

A company wants to build a new commercial building on the site.

Elsewhere a plan has been submitted to build 81 homes on a field in Berkshire near the border with a neighbouring county.

The field lies outside the settlement boundary of the village and is designated as the countryside.

A company called Bracknell Development LLP has applied to construct a new commercial building on the site of the former John Nike Leisure Complex.

The complex was a hub for winter sports but began to decline and never reopened after its forced closure during the pandemic in March 2020, with the leisure centre building being demolished in June last year.

The Bees Ice Hockey Team had moved to Slough and The Ozone ice rink provided a replacement facility for the one lost at the leisure complex.

Now the developers want to construct a new commercial building to provide employment opportunities at the site.

The existing ski slope would be retained should it reopen in the future, and an existing office would be retained, with the developers asking that a restriction linking it to the John Nike Leisure company be removed.

The fresh plan has been submitted as an alternative to the scheme approved in December.

Croudace Homes has applied to build 81 homes on a field just outside Swallowfield.

The new homes would be a mix of flats and houses, consisting of six one-bed and six two-bed flats and one five-bed, 23 four-bed, 33 three-bed and 12 two-bed houses.

The site stretches across 14.18 acres of designated countryside and is just a mile north of the county boundary with Hampshire.

Specifically, it is situated west of Trowes Lane and north of Charlton Lane. Croudace Homes has submitted a heritage statement by consultants RPS due to the site’s proximity to listed buildings and the Swallowfield Conservation Area.
