A pub near Bracknell could be getting a revamped outdoor area if plans are given the go-ahead.

Greene King, which owns the Prince, in Crowthorne, wants to improve its outdoor seating area and build an extension for a disabled toilet to be added for the first time.

Currently, the outdoor area has tables, seating and sun umbrellas.

The owners want to replace these tables with sun umbrellas with an all-new pergola with a polycarbonate roof that would shield punters from the rain.

A spokesperson for The Prince said: “These plans, subject to approval, are an exciting development for our popular High Street pub.

"Customers would be able to enjoy food and drinks with us in the outdoor pergola all-year round, regardless of the weather, and with the proposed extension, including a disabled toilet, we hope it will make the pub more accessible for everyone.”

Blackdog, Greene King’s planning agents, added: “The planned works will increase customer appeal of the pub by improving its accessibility, providing additional outdoor space which is sheltered from inclement weather and improving the visual appeal of the premises, thus ensuring the economic viability of the pub going into the future.”

The plan also involves making changes to the rear entrance of the pub from its car park, namely the construction of an extension that would provide a disabled access toilet. The pub has never had a disabled toilet before.

The design access statement submitted by Blackdog states: “Constructing a new extension to the back of the building is the only feasible way to provide disabled customer toilet accommodation to the existing structure.

“The creation of a new disabled customer toilet which was hitherto unavailable makes a significant improvement to the accessibility of the pub.”

The disabled toilet would be created to the left of a new entrance from the car park.

The pub would require a temporary closure for the changes to be implemented.

The company is also on the lookout for an assistant manager for the pub.

A post on the We Love Crowthorne Village Facebook group is also appealing for bar staff. The post asks that potential applicants call the pub on 01344 772241.

Greene King is one of the biggest brewery and pub ownership companies in the country, with over 1,800 managed pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK.

Other Greene King pubs in the area include the Green Man, the Bridge, the Crown Wood and the Silver Birch, all located in Bracknell.

It also runs the Running Horse, a Hungry Horse brand pub, and The Cricketers and Shepherds House, both in Warfield.
