The big day has now passed and many will be sat with a full belly wondering 'what next?'.

A lot of effort goes into the build-up to Christmas Day, the decorating, the planning, and the festive food - but what to do with it all afterwards.

The council has given a helpful run down of what to recycle and where, including those Christmas trees:

Christmas trees

Christmas trees will be collected as garden waste if they are cut up and put in your brown bin or a council garden waste sack. Remember to remove all decorations and lights.

The bin lid or sack must be closed. Any trees not in a closed brown bin or council garden waste sack, or sacks that have not been booked, will not be taken.

Alternatively, you can book a bulky collection to have Christmas trees removed or take them to the recycling centre.

Wrapping paper

If you have paper to throw away, double check that every part of your present wrapping is recyclable before putting it in your blue bin. Remove all sticky tape and embellishments.

Wrapping paper must be non-foil to be accepted, so do the scrunch test to make sure. If you scrunch it and it remains in place, then it’s ok to recycle.

Christmas cards

Bracknell Forest Council advise residents to hold onto this year’s Christmas cards and reuse them as tags or cards for next year.

Packaging

Delivery boxes should be broken down and recycled. Bubble wrap and plastic film cannot be recycled in your blue bin but can be taken to your local carrier bag collection point at the supermarket.

Food waste

Leftovers can be frozen and reused at a later date, or anything that can’t be reused can be disposed of in your food waste caddy.

Glass bottles

These can be recycled at your local bottle bank, or at the recycling centre. Glass bottles no longer need to be separated by colour.

Batteries and electricals

These should not be thrown away at home. They cannot be collected in kerbside bin collections.

Instead take them to your nearest recycling point. Household batteries can be taken to most large supermarkets and also our local recycling centres.

Bin collections can change over the Christmas period, click here for the full run down of changes in Bracknell and Wokingham.
