UNSUNG heros who have gone above and beyond in their community have been recognised at an awards ceremony by the Mayor.

The first winners of the Mayor of Bracknell Forest’s ‘Opportunity Champion’ recognition award were celebrated at the Council meeting on Wednesday, November 30. 

The recognition is for outstanding contribution towards the well-being of others within the Bracknell Forest community.  

In June, Monika Taplin was awarded for spreading a lot of joy and good-feeling through her running and cycling whilst wearing various unique costumes, such as Buzz Lightyear, a penguin and a unicorn, to raise awareness and money for Youthline and being a beacon of joy across the borough.

Ashleigh Toomey and Natalia Vil were awarded for their splendid efforts towards helping the Ukrainian communities, both in Ukraine and here in Bracknell in July.

They have also been instrumental in creating the VSI Razom Community Hub in Princess Square, The Lexicon, in aid of Ukrainian refugees

August winner Alison Baker, was recognised for her contribution to the welfare of the residents of The Parks neighbourhood.

Alison contributes through her selfless work for others and within The Parks Community Association

The Mayor Cllr Ankur Shiv Bhandari, said: “Congratulations to the winners – they all deserve recognition and celebration of their work and the difference they make in the community to individuals, local communities, charities and not-for-profit organisations, especially during what has been a challenging year for us all.

"I am very proud to have such outstanding people within Bracknell Forest”.

The Bracknell Forest Mayor’s Opportunity Champion recognition will be awarded each month and winners will be acknowledged at full Council meetings.
