ANGRY neighbours have hit out after a racial slur was graffitied alongside obscenities on a bus shelter in Bracknell.

The 'hate crime' was reported to police earlier this month after the offensive word and derogatory drawing appeared in Moordale Avenue nearby Meadow Vale Primary School.

According to concerned parents and locals, this kind of racist graffiti is ‘sadly nothing new’ and discussions online said it was an ongoing problem.

The piece of graffiti, that was also reported to Bracknell Town Council on November 13, was quickly removed.

The Bracknell resident that made the News aware of this incident said: “Many of us feel angry, upset, afraid and anxious. Sadly the racism here is nothing new - we have had many incidents.

“We are glad it’s been painted over now and hope that not too many children saw it.

“The council and police have been informed but I believe someone took the task of painting over it last night."

This resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said this graffiti comes after discussions have been ongoing surrounding an incident at a Bracknell Town FC game where a small number of Banbury United fans hurled racial abuse at staff.

Neighbours have joined a local Facebook group called Berkshire Against Racism to highlight such local incidents and raise awareness to help stamp out the issue.

Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of this on Sunday November 13.

“The report has been filed pending further information coming to light. Anyone with information can make a report by calling 101 or reporting online, quoting 43220512290.”
