A warm welcome to the residents of Bracknell Forest this week.

November is men’s health awareness month, and the council is encouraging everyone to recognise and raise awareness of health issues that commonly affect men.

Many take part in the infamous Movember challenge during the month of November, growing moustaches to raise awareness for men’s physical and mental health. In support, the council will be using the month of November to share helpful resources and links to support that can help improve mental health and physical wellbeing in men.

One in eight men have a mental health issue such as anxiety, and suicide is the largest cause of death in men under 50. This, combined with male specific cancers such as prostate and testicular cancer, show it’s important everyone is aware of the symptoms and how they can access help if needed.

For more information and advice on common male health issues, visit the public health portal.

This week is Inter Faith Week. Inter Faith Week highlights the enormous contribution made by faith communities across our society and supports good relations between groups of different faiths. I have visited many across the borough in my time as leader, and I can say how much richer the borough has become as a result. I know that when we run our inter faith forum tomorrow, this will be all too clear.

You may have noticed that entries are now open for The Lexicon Bracknell Half Marathon. The 13-mile course is not only challenging, it is rewarding because of the sheer amount of people who come out on the course to support the runners.

Don’t worry if the distance seems daunting, you have until May to prepare. You can sign up now on the Everyone Active website.

Whatever you do, be it training, prioritising your faith, or taking care of your health, have a lovely week ahead.
