A local mum has set out to promote outdoor play this winter as figures show children spend a third less time outdoors than their grandparent's generation.

Little Muddy Boots, based in Ascot, offers gardening, nature and forest school classes for children aged one to six and has recently launched activity cards.

The card sets are designed for each season, including facts and craft ideas to engage children.

Owner of Little Muddy Boots Hannah said: "As a mum of three, I have found first-hand that there is so much to be gained from kids playing and learning together outside.

"It’s a chance for them to fill their lungs with fresh air, enjoy the natural daylight, and boost their mood and ability to sleep at night.

"With the winter months ahead, it's understandable that people want to hide away indoors.

"But getting outside, whatever the weather is so important.

"If we could encourage families to do anything it's to get out together for 30 minutes a day.

"We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing."
