Crime has risen across Bracknell Forest over the last year, according to official police records.

From June 2021 to June 2022, Thames Valley Police responded to 7,139 offences across the borough, increasing 12% compared to the previous year.

Among the various crimes recorded, the most shocking statistics found was the sharp rise in violent and sexual offences.

In the past 12 months, 307 sexual offences were recorded to Thames Valley Police which is a rise of 32%.

This increase is in keeping with sexual violence crimes across the UK and has caused a victim support group to stand up and say “women deserve better”.

Reacting to the figures, Diana Fawcett, chief executive at the charity Victim Support, said: “This huge increase in sexual violence, in particular rape, reported to the police is seriously alarming and a stark reminder that the government needs to get a grip on staggeringly low conviction rates and horrendous court delays.

Although the sharp rise in rapes and sexual offences has been said to be ‘very concerning’ there has also been an 8% rise in the volume of charges for rape offences across the UK.

Although crime across Thames Valley and Bracknell Forest is seen to be climbing, the Office for National Statistics has outlined that at 57.5 crimes per 1,000 people, it is far lower than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 91.3.
