A Wokingham Road remains closed after a Thames Water tanker sank into the ground above a collapsed sewer last weekend.

Due to the sewer leeks undermining the road outside Evendons Primary School, the school was made to close its doors to pupils, staff, and visitors for the day (3/10).

Traffic officials have stated that access to properties and businesses west of the school is via Edneys Hill.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry to our customers impacted by the road closure on Evendons Lane, in Wokingham.

“Whilst supporting the repair of a collapsed sewer one of our larger vehicles has sunk in to a hole in the road.

“Our teams have made the area safe and a vehicle diversion is in place. Today we will be completing ground surveys so we can ensure the safe removal of the tanker. Once we have removed the vehicle, we will then be able to start the repair to our foul water sewer.

“We are working closely with the local council and other stakeholders to reduce the impact to local residents and the local school while we carry out our work.”
