An ‘inspiring’ children’s book festival will hold its fifth annual event in the borough next month.

Young readers will get the opportunity to join sessions hosted by authors, illustrators and storytellers designed to get kids excited about books.

Chair of Wokingham Town Council’s Arts and Culture Committee, Cllr Sally Gurney, said it will be “fun and inspiring” and urged residents to get involved.

"I can point to the signed books on my shelves and tell you all about the time I met the author, what they were like, what we talked about,” she added.

The festival line-up features names including award-winning author Manjeet Mann and illustrator Amanda Quartey for a talk about their new book Small’s Big Dream.

A total of 16 sessions will take place on October 15 and 16 at the Town Hall and the new Wokingham Library.

As well as in-person sessions, there is also the chance to join in some sessions that are being livestreamed.

Tickets, which can be purchased from the Wokingham Children’s Book Festival website, are £3 per seat for live events, while streamed sessions are £3 per household.

Executive member for climate emergency and resident services, Cllr Sarah Kerr, called the festival “one of the most hotly anticipated events of the year”.
