There are more than 200 job vacancies at the council left unfilled, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request obtained by The News has revealed.

Bracknell Forest Council has a total of 240 posts vacant, around six per cent of the roughly 4,000 local authority staff positions.

According to the latest Local Government Authority (LGA) Workforce Survey of councils in England, where the most recent data comes from 2017/18, this is below the median vacancy rate of eight per cent.

The council is currently advertising 87 jobs on its website, 60 of which are within a school setting. This indicates that, of the total number of vacancies, a quarter are within this sector.

Whilst elected councillors design policies, it is paid employees who are the ones that implement them.

The council currently employs staff across five departments; Delivery, People, Place, Planning and Regeneration, Chief Executive’s Office and Resources.

There have also been 11 members of staff who have been made redundant over the last two years, as well as a further 351 employees, around nine per cent, who have left their roles for various reasons over the same time frame.

This is below the latest median labour turnover rate at council’s, again taken from the 2017/18 LGA survey, where the average was 13.4 per cent.
