Plans to build new flats above and behind a vacant Crowthorne shop can go ahead after getting the green light from the council.

The site, located on Dukes Ride, is now entirely empty but previously housed offices on the first floor at number 184 and Apex model shop at number 182.

The first-floor office space will be converted into two one-bedroom flats, plus the removal of all chimneys, whilst the ground floor space behind the shop will become a two-bedroom apartment.

The shopfront glazing will be replaced, as well as all windows being updated to modern UPVC sash designs – meaning its formed of two or more sliding glazed frames – which the applicant says will “enhance” the visual appearance of the building.

Crowthorne Parish Council had recommended the application for refusal due to “insufficient parking” as there is a shortfall of one space and “overdevelopment” of the building itself.

The applicant said the development provides an opportunity for investment that “secures the long-term use” of the building.

Work can now begin as Section 106 legal agreements have been settled between Bracknell Forest Council and, Slough based property developers, Wildmoor Homes Ltd – Section 106 legal agreements are contributions paid by developers to support local infrastructure.
