For this week’s Bracknell Nostalgia, we have decided to go back 20 years to remind ourselves when an ice hockey team from the town appeared on Blue Peter.

Joining Konnie Huq, Matt Baker and Liz Barker in the famous BBC studio were the Bracknell Hummers Under 14s.
The Blue Peter episode dates back to 2002
Both Baker and Barker took to the ice to showcase their skills in front of millions of viewers, whilst they interviewed two of the team’s players in Sam Bidmead and Ben Gilbert.
The Bracknell Hummers team was made up of under 14s
When asked what he loves about the sport, the latter said: “It’s the rush it gives you.
Barker and Baker interviwed teenagers Sam Bidmead and Ben Gilbert
“You get two sides of it, physical and the mental side.”
Baker had two attempts to score but failed to beat the keeper
Sam, who was the only girl on the team added: “It doesn’t feel any different (being the only girl).
Barker also missed her chance to score
“We all get treated the same.”
Both presenters were given a chance to try and score in their respective goals, but both Baker saw his two attempts get saved by the keeper, whilst Barker’s effort went wide.
The two continued to play on the ice after the broadcast ended with Baker concluding that ice hockey ‘rocks’ when partaking in the friendly match.
