A new political map for Wokingham is being drawn up and residents are being urged to have their say over its development.

The Local Government Boundary Commission, the independent body that draws the boundaries, has initiated a 10-week consultation period inviting proposals from the community, which will run until November 7.

It is currently reviewing Wokingham to make sure councillors represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements help the council work effectively.

The chair of the commission, Professor Colin Mellors, said they are looking for people to “help” as it wants the proposals for new electoral arrangements to “reflect communities”.

“Residents and local organisations can help us understand community ties and identities at this early stage of the process.

“Just tell us what you think and give us some details [of] why you think that. It’s really simple, so do get involved,” he added.

The consultation is seeking to see what residents think about issues such as what facilities people share, what issues neighbouring communities have in common and if any recent developments have changed certain areas.

The Commission has a dedicated section on its website where people can give their views, which will be used to help it draw up proposals for new ward boundaries.
