BIN collections have been suspended by the council due to the soaring heat.

Temperatures could hit record highs today as the extreme summer weather grips the nation.

The heatwave will pose a ‘danger to life’ in Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead and parts of Bracknell as it becomes subject to the UK’s first ever ‘red alert’ temperature warning, according to the Met Office.

A red alert means all residents are vulnerable to serious illness and potentially life-threatening conditions from the heat, not just the elderly, young children or vulnerable as is the case during an amber alert.

In light of this, Bracknell Forest Council has suspended bin collections today (July 18).

The council said: "As a result of the extreme heat heading our way, waste collections have now stopped for today, allowing our crews to stay protected from the heat.

"Any collections that have been missed due to this change will be collected tomorrow from the earlier time of 5.30am, so please leave your bins ready for collection.

"It is likely that the same procedure will be in place tomorrow too. Our crews will continue to collect waste the following day when temperatures drop in order to catch up.

"Thank you for your understanding and helping to keep our crews safe."
