A BRAND new play area has opened this summer after a 'significant makeover'.

The newly improved playground at South Hill Park re-opened on Thursday, July 14.

Children from Birch Hill pre-school were the first ones to try out the new park.

New features include musical flowers, a rain wheel and a sensory area.

The toddler play area, which is located near the main terrace, had been closed since June 13, while it was given a significant makeover.

The improvements were carried out by contractor Proludic, who have helped to refresh the existing facilities and improve its accessibility for families.

Cllr John Harrison, Executive Member for Culture, Delivery and Public Protection, said: “I’m happy that our younger residents enjoyed trying out the new facilities for the first time.

“The new play equipment, play panels and games are already proving to be very popular. We have also kept some traditional favourites, such as the swing seat, springer and slide.

“When our playgrounds are due for upgrade, we ensure the improvements are designed for the benefit of all users.

“The contractor we have used for this work, has over 30 years’ experience in the design and creation of freely accessible playground equipment and we are really pleased with the end result. We hope it will bring many hours of accessible play for more of our younger residents and their families.”
