A gang of burglars have been caught using cold calling tactics to target unoccupied and vulnerable homes.

Police have issued a warning after this particular group of ‘white adult males’ visited the Bracknell area on a number of occasions in a small blue hatchback with stolen registration plates.

They are described as having 'strong Irish accents' and when they have encountered a home owner claim to be window cleaners seeking work, before quickly departing. This is despite not having a ladder, bucket, or squeegee on their possession.

It is advised in these situations to never buy from or employ such characters, and to simply and politely tell them to leave you property.

Thames Valley Police said: “Police and Trading Standards are always interested to be informed of any dodgy individuals claiming to be tradesmen who can’t or won’t supply contact detail, provide written estimates or quotes, want cash payment before commencing any job or don’t seem to be have an appropriate vehicle or tools.

“If you are troubled by this type of caller, it would be a good idea to make a note of their appearance and any vehicle as soon as you can, and if you have it, to save any CCTV or Ring doorbell recording and then inform the police. You never know when you might prove to be a crucial witness.”
