The Observer has rounded up some of the most important stories from the last week.

1. Aldi looks to build new store in Slough

Slough Observer:

ALDI is on the hunt for a new store location in Slough as part of its expansion.

The supermarket chain, which already has more than 960 stores across the UK, is looking for a freehold town centre or edge-of-town site that is around 1.5 acres.

Last week, Aldi confirmed with the Observer it is set to open in Slough next spring.

And now the store it looking for a site in the town which is around 20,000 sq ft with around 100 parking spaces and ideally near a main road with good visibility and access.

2. Man stabbed multiple times after being followed by men in balaclavas

Slough Observer:

A man was stabbed multiple times in Slough after being tailed by men in balaclavas.

Three men followed the victim along Cippenham Lane on Wednesday, where he was assaulted near the Earl of Cornwall Pub, before following him again to Court Farm Close, where he was stabbed repeatedly.

The victim, a man in his twenties, was taken to hospital, where he remains. His injuries are not life threatening.

The offenders began tailing the man at around 9.30am on Wednesday in Stoney Mead, when the he was making his way back home from a shop.

3. The new restaurants making their way to town very soon

Slough Observer:

WINDSOR locals will soon be spoilt for choice as a range of eateries are set to open in the town very soon.

The Ivy Royal Windsor already opened its doors a few weeks ago, which has already received rave reviews from customers.

And now more restaurants and cafes will be joining for locals and tourists to enjoy eating at.

One restaurant, that is going to fling open its doors in July is fast food chain, Five Guys.

It'll open its Windsor branch in Windsor Royal Station in the coming weeks.

4. Swapping weekly bin collections to fortnightly is 'on the cards,' council says

Slough Observer:

SWAPPING from weekly bin collections to fortnightly pick-ups is ‘on the cards,’ the council has said.

For the past few months, residents have been complaining to Slough Borough Council about missed collections, leaving their bins to ‘overflow’ and attracting rats.

The local authority has apologised numerous times via social media and blamed a “severe staffing issues” and the “inability” to secure enough interim staff to cover their absent workforce.

A council spokesperson said: “We don’t have enough permanent staff and we can’t get enough agency staff in."

5. High street shop fined for owning illegal tobacco

Slough Observer:

A HIGH street shop in Slough has been fined for owning illegal tobacco.

SL Wines (J.S.G. UK Ltd) director Surgit Singh and company secretary Jasmeet Singh, both from Hounslow, were fined and ordered to pay more than £61,000 at Reading Crown Court on June 27.

During an investigation in 2019, using tobacco detection dogs, £12,000 worth of illegal tobacco products were found in a van, registered to the business, outside the back of the shop.

The products were seized by Slough’s Trading Standards officers.
