TOUCHING tributes have been paid to a much-loved member of the Wildridings community who tragically died after competing in an Ironman challenge.

Tributes have been paid to Bracknell man Andy Hey, known for his ‘generosity, loyalty and dedication’ to the community where he worked and lived.

The messages have been posted online in honour of the keen athlete, who worked at Wildridings Primary School, after he passed away on Sunday.

Raymond Mouzon, who said he met Andy at Bracknell Half Marathon five years ago, posted: “I went to him for support and he went out his way for me like I did for him. It’s a brotherhood and he knew I needed help.”

The friend explained only a few days before his death Andy took Raymond on his first open-water swim in preparation for his first triathlon.

Nikki Jane McNulty commented: “It’s so sad. Andy was a huge positive part of the community who left a positive impression on many children. Thoughts to his wife, children and family.”

Andy was site controller at Wildridings Primary School, where he was very much a valued member of the staff and well-known for his laughter and involvement within the school.

A decision was made to close the school on Monday after the shock news to allow the school community to process the tragic incident.

Wildridings Primary School headteacher Simon Cope said: “Andy, known as Mouse to his close friends, was the heart and soul of Wildridings Primary School and an important person in the local community. The staff, families and children at Wildridings are devastated and in a state of shock.

“The local authority has been incredible and the support we are all receiving, including a number of educational psychologists on site, is superb in such difficult circumstances.
“Andy was not only a site controller, he was a friend and part of our family.

“His loss has not only affected the school but also the whole community. Our thoughts are with Andy’s family at this very difficult time.”

Another tribute online added: “The school isn’t going to be the same again not seeing him at the gates every morning and afternoon. Such a nice guy. Will be missed.”
