A Bracknell mother has reached out to members of the community to help support a devastated family after learning of their son’s heart-breaking cancer diagnosis.

Three months ago, it was confirmed that Daniel Goble, 12, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of childhood stage-4 cancer.

With no form of support, the self-employed parent’s Helen and Chris Goble were put in the position of a life of uncertainty for the foreseeable future.

As a close friend, Natasha Dunley felt the need to provide a little financial stability for a family who had just had their lives turned up-side down in a matter of days.

Helen and Natasha became close during lockdown, whereas their sons have known each other since primary school.

Natasha said: “When I first reached out to people in the community I was amazed and over the moon. In just a couple of days we had raised £5,000 for Daniel and his family just through the fundraising page and contacting Daniel’s school and reaching out on social media.

“The way that the community have banded together to help Helen, Chris and Daniel has been incredible.

“There are charities out there to help families psychologically with a cancer diagnosis but in regards to financial support there isn’t a lot of help.”

Currently, Daniel is halfway through his chemotherapy to try and shrink the tumour and is waiting for a call from King’s College in London to remove the mass on his liver and a possible transplant.

Dunley added: “Daniel is a fighter.

“He is kind, caring, fun to be around with a great sense of humour and a little bit crazy! If anyone’s going to carry on and push through, it’ll be Daniel.”

So far, 72% of their £15,000 target has been reached with 307 supporters behind the Just Giving page.

Although it is very rare for Daniel to be back in his Bracknell home, Natasha organised an Easter surprise during one of their visits where members of the community contributed food, games and balloons for his homecoming.
