Bracknell’s MP has responded to growing calls to crack down on noisy night-time car meets in a Sainsbury’s car park.

According to a local resident, up to 100 cars congregate in the Sainsbury’s car park on Bagshot Road, which has left them at their “wit’s end.”

Thames Valley Police, in cooperation with Sainsbury’s, have subsequently announced the installation of specialist security cameras to tackle the problem.

Bracknell MP James Sunderland has backed the plan and thanked the organisations for “listening to the people of Bracknell.”

He added: “We need to get a grip of anti-social driving, speeding and noise nuisance in the town. Following conversations with Sainsbury’s they moved swiftly with the Council and Thames Valley Police to introduce measures to resolve the issue.

“I am pleased to report that Sainsbury’s and their partners have devised and implemented a plan that will help prevent future issues of this nature in Bracknell."

The measures announced include deploying car park marshals at weekends for the remainder of this month to deter inappropriate behaviour, monitoring the store remotely from the security operations centre, deploying a ‘mobile disruption unit,’ which will act as a visible deterrent and record CCTV and to consider Installing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).

“I will be meeting Sainsbury and Thames Valley Police to follow-up on these actions,” Sunderland confirmed.
