A licensing application has been submitted for a summer party in a field at a private residence.

The Temporary Event Notice (TEN) proposes the hosting of a live music event with one stage and the sale of alcohol and food at Heriots, a residential address on Wokingham Road in Hurst.

The event would take place between 12pm on July 30 and 4am on July 31, with a maximum of 499 attendees.

Wokingham Borough Council considered the application at a recent licensing sub-committee meeting after receiving an objection from Environmental Health on the grounds of preventing public nuisance and safety.

Thames Valley Police had initially agreed to the TEN, however, when the applicant did not respond to the Environmental Health’s request for further details, it too submitted an objection.

A similar event took place at the same site in August 2014, under the guise of a ‘family festival’, which subsequently turned out to be a "rave" resulting in over 80 complaints about excess noise.

Conditions applied to the 2014 TEN were ignored, which resulted in nuisance notices being served to the organiser and landowners.

The committee chair, Barrie Patman, said: “The fact that this is going on till 4am doesn’t fill me with confidence that it’s going to be an event normally acceptable in that area.”

The committee will now vote on a final decision.
