POLICE have issued a warning after a resident with memory loss was scammed into having roof work done.
Thames Valley Police received a report on Monday, April 25, about cold callers who talked an Ascot resident into having work done on his property.
The scammers tarmacked the driveway which the residents son-in-law says is a mess.
They also re-pointed the roof and jet washed the back patio.
Police received the report from the son-in-law who says his father-in-law has memory issues so can't remmeber what work he agreed to have carried out.
He also couldn't remember how much he agreed to pay.
Police officers said the victim received an "unsatisfactory invoice and the two phone numbers on the invoice do not connect. The caller said that they wrote a cheque for the scammer
However the scammes returned to the victims house as they wanted the payment in cash, not a cheque.
Police added: "The caller states the father in law started crying on the phone to him when he was talking about it, as he is confused and doesn't understand what is happening. The caller cannot find any record of the company on the invoice.
"Caller has spoken to a relative of the aggrieved. They mentioned that the aggrieved had agreed to this work and agreed a price of £1,250. The invoice amount is for over £2,000 and the caller is concerned that if they pay them cash they will return and ask for more."
Thames Valley Police said they will visit the property to protect the victim in case the scammers return again.
Following this incident, residents have been warned not to buy goods or services when cold callers knock on the door.
