AN Indian restaurant is offering free meals to Ukrainian families that have been forced to flea their homes due to the war.

Wokingham’s oldest family-run establishment, Sultan, are reaching out to families staying in the area and their hosts as a way to ease financial pressure.

The Home’s for Ukraine scheme has seen many Ukrainian refugees arrive into the country, where hosts are given a tax-free payment of £350 per month for up to 12 month.

However, with the price of living increasing many feel that this may not be the enough to cover all necessary supplies.

Sunil Chopra, from Sultan, said: “We want to do what we can to help and offering them and their hosts a taste of Indian food is something we’re able to do.

“In most cases the £350-a-month from the Government will not be enough to cover all their needs, so we hope to take the pressure off a little by offering them a meal on us.”

As well as their free meal initiative, Sunil also hopes to organise an evening for Ukrainian families to share their experiences. This would be a ticketed event, with all funds going to the Ukrainian relief effort.

The restaurant has recently re-opened following a £100,000 facelift which has saw the launch of a new café serving a unique array of dishes created by their award-winning chef.
