Bracknell News:

A helpless woman says she feels scared for her husband who is trapped in Ukraine in the middle of a warzone. Natalia Vil from Bracknell spoke of her fears for her husband’s safety and says she desperately ‘wants to be by his side’.

The pair have three children together, aged 14, 15 and 18 months, so she has to stay put in England. Her husband Andrey flew out to Ukraine to visit his mother but is currently unable to return.

He is one of the many Ukrainian men who have been banned from leaving the country and told to join the army. It comes after Russia launched a devastating attack on Ukraine, a European democracy of 44 million people, and its forces are on the outskirts of the capital, Kyiv. Natalia said: “I feel horrible. I feel I need to go there and be with him but I can’t leave the children.

He was with his brother, and they woke up to really loud sounds - they had to hide in the basement. “He told me ‘You would never understand what it’s like to be in this situation’ so it’s difficult to understand. He’s a strong, young man but he’s scared to death.” Her husband is currently helping people in the city of Uman, which has a population of about 82,600.

Wokingham News

Bracknell News: RUNNERS of all ages took to the streets on Sunday to take part in Wokingham’s annual half-marathon. Over 3,500 runners gathered at 10am to compete the 13-mile run for another sell-out year.

The route, which started and finished in Cantley Park on Twyford Road, charted mainly flat surfaces, and was run entirely on closed roads. Mayor Keith Baker sounded the klaxon for both the main race and the mini mile alongside Wokingham Borough Council Leader John Halsall.

First man past the finishing line in the main race was Jonathan Cornish from Reading Joggers Club, with Naomi Mitchell from Woodley finishing not long after as the first woman over the line.

Ascot News

Bracknell News: A SCIENCE park could see a new research centre built that examines animals, plants, humans, and microorganisms if Royal Borough councillors give the go-ahead.

Planners from the Silwood Park Science Park in Buckhurst Road, Ascot, want to erect a three-storey ‘life science building’ with a café to “kickstart” the rest of the park and “act as an anchor” to the cluster of adjacent smaller refurbished research units.

It is proposed to split the 5,260 sqm building into offices and laboratory space to assist its science and research professions. If the scheme, which was brought forward by developer NSS IV (Real Estate) LLP, is approved, this will involve demolishing the existing business centre and developing on the Green Belt.

To meet future parking demand, the developer is proposing to increase its current 211-space car park by adding 13 more spaces. Of the total umber of bays, 45 will be provided with electric vehicle charging points.
