A PERSON hit by a train at Burnham station has sadly passed away, police have confirmed.

Lines between Reading and London Paddington closed this morning following reports of an incident between the two destinations.

This came after British Transport Police responded to a report of a casualty on the tracks at Burnham station at 6.49am.

Sadly, a person was declared dead at the scene after paramedics arrived in an ambulance and rapid response vehicle at 6.55am.

A spokesperson from BTP said: “British Transport Police were called to Burnham station at 6.49am this morning (1 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death.”

Train services running Reading and London Paddington were cancelled or delayed and journeys between Reading and Slough were suspended as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Lines reopened at around 9.45am.
