BRACKELL Veterans donned their regalia at a local charity coffee morning this week to unite in mutual comradery.

A group of ex-service men joined the volunteers at Shop Mobility in Bracknell to enjoy hot drinks and biscuits, and a chance to chat about their time in the services.

Becky Pearce, the manager from Shop Mobility said: “Everyone looked so smart and they were so excited to put on their medals and uniform which would otherwise sit in a box at home.

“It’s an absolute honour for Shop Mobility to be able to host these war heroes and give them a space to get together and talk.

The organiser of the event, John Hedges has been holding regular veteran coffee mornings since before lockdown and there are hopes that the veterans will find a new space at the charity and become members themselves.

Ms Pearce said: “There are so many ex-veterans who do not get the support that they need, and we want to provide a space to just come in and chat about anything.”

“We have someone from every service. The Army, Air force, Royal Artillery and Royal Signals. We even had someone at one time who had spent time working in the American army before moving over to England.”

Attendees included Charlie Kerry who was one of the oldest veterans at the event. At 93 he was a member of the Queens own regiment and Sgt John Jacobs who worked in Northern Ireland for the Royal Artillery during the troubles.

The Veterans event takes place every two weeks at Shop Mobility in Bracknell for any ex-service men or women to attend.
