A popular walking route in Wentworth Golf Club has been blocked with a notice stating its lack of access to the public.

Ruth Cramer reported this disturbance on December 24 after trying to gain access to her usual walking trail through Chobham Common in the Sunningdale golf course.

She posted: “For anyone who uses Wentworth Golf Club to go walking, access over the little wooden slated bridge has been closed!...tried to find a way around, but it was too boggy.”

Bracknell News:

The Surrey County Council Countryside access team have commented that ‘this particular path is not a public right of way but a path through the common.’

There is an understanding between residents and the SCC that the path is closed because of broken slats on the board walk in need of repair which is visible beyond the fence.

Although there is a barrier and sign stating ‘no access’, walkers have said that ‘there is a boggy path around the fence of either side for those with wellies or walking boots.’

Tim Wilson concerned about the local landscape has warned walkers to 'be careful and defend what has been a footpath forever'.

Local resident Yvette Tinlin has commented:

“I hope this is just a matter of repair. Would be a disgrace if it’s Wentworth restricting access.

Ruth has posted, “Fingers crossed they will mend the two broken slats…possibly a health and safety issue.”

The News have contacted the greenkeepers at Wentworth Golf Club for more information and is yet to receive a response.
