A burglar assaulted a man in his nineties while stealing his retirement present.

The man charged down the stairs toward the victim after he returned to his home in Binfield Road at around 10am on Wednesday (December 15).

He ran off toward Barratt Crescent via Binfield Road with jewellery and a watch inscribed: "Presented to [victim's name] on his retirement from Eastern and Sons."

A 23-year-old man from Wokingham has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail until January 12.

Ambulance staff checked over the victim but he was uninjured.

Investigating officer Richard Fisher, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “I am appealing to the public to please get in touch if they have any information about this burglary.

“Particularly anyone with dash cameras who drove down Binfield Road around this time, please check your cameras as it could assist our investigation.
