A primary school in Bracknell is celebrating after receiving a ‘Good’ rating from OFSTED for the first time in the school’s history.

Staff at Crown Wood Primary School have been praised for creating a great learning environment where pupils can reach their full potential.

The pupils themselves were praised for treating each other with kindness and respect, and corrective measures are taken when difficulties arise.

The OFSTED report states: “When pupils are occasionally unkind to each other, leaders respond quickly and effectively. Pupils are taught how to resolve issues so that they do not recur.”

As for learning, the inspectors quoted one parent, who said: “I feel lucky to be able to send my child here.

“The staff genuinely know my child and how to support him to meet his full potential.”

As well as being a mainstream school, Crown Wood also caters for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Inspectors were satisfied that staff were handling these pupils effectively, stating that staff were good at identifying the needs of these pupils, and provided “well-matched support” for them during their time at school.

To improve, staff at the school have been told to replicate the teaching strengths they have achieved in reading, English and maths to other subjects.

Particularly, inspectors said that teachers would benefit from more training in the other subjects so that the learning of their pupils can be improved.

Celebrating the news, Grant Strudley, head teacher of Crown Wood Primary School, said: “We are very proud to receive a good rating from Ofsted.

“It is testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff and children over the last 2-3 years as well as the support we’ve received from parents and the wider community.  We will not be sitting back.

“We remain ambitious for the school and the children and we will work hard to ensure we continue to move forward.”

The inspection was held on November 3-4 and published on December 9.

It’s the first inspection the school has had since it became part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust academy in 2017. Prior to that, the school was rated ‘Requires Improvement’ following an inspection in March 2015.

Will Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, said: “We are delighted for Crown Wood Primary School on this significant achievement. The report reflects where we think the school is, identifies our strengths and endorses the steps we are taking to continue the improvement of the school.”
