A WOMAN feels "absolute disgrace" at the "botched job" done to stop neighbours from parking on grass verges.

The resident from Dryden, Bracknell, said rotting tree logs were used instead of proper bollards to stop parking issues in the area.

However, the work carried out by Silva Homes on Friday, November 26, is believed to be a more eco-friendly and sustainable approach.

In a statement, they said: "During our site assessment it was noted that cars were being parked illegally on land owned by Silva Homes and that the area is populated with several trees.

Bracknell News:

"Driving over and parking cars on the rooting area of the trees would result in soil compaction and over time this activity would lead to the decline in the health of our trees. "

Despite this, the resident believes using logs is "shoddy work" and Silva Homes should "start putting their hand in their pocket to solve problems rather than create more."

She said: "Look at the shoddy work done in order to stop residents parking in a street with inadequate parking, just pathetic, it doesn’t solve the problem.

"Now the street have to look at a rotting tree. If a resident did this with a tree from their garden they would be done for fly tipping - absolute disgrace. No doubt we will pay more council tax next year to cover the cost of botched jobs like this.

The woman, who has lived in Dryden for 20 years said the greenery was a lot nicer before the work was carried out.

However Silva Home said because of residents parking on the rooting area of the trees, they were damaged and needed to be taken down.

A spokesman for Silva Homes said: "We received reports of cars being parked on the verges in Dryden, this was causing considerable damage to grassed areas especially the verges. There were already signs that requested there to be no parking on the verges and there was a request from a resident to install bollards.

"We have found installing bollards to not be the best solution for these issues as they can become a target for vandalism.

"By carefully placing trunks, we are able to prevent people parking on the verges. In addition, this approach is eco-friendly and sustainable as the trunks have been sourced locally, they will release carbon back into the atmosphere at slower rate in comparison to if they were burnt as firewood, they also provide valuable habitat for mosses, lichens, and fungi, as well as many insects."
