Owners of properties in our area have been busy at work applying for improvements to their homes this week.

Plans involve converting a bungalow into a semi detached home in Sandhurst, a gym for the wealthy owners of a farm, and the construction of a replacement home in Arborfield.

Also, the owners of a manor house have applied to renovate the kitchen and conduct other works.

The owners of 52 Branksome Hill in Sandhurst have applied to do extensive works to their bungalow to convert it into a semi detached house.

The home currently has two bedrooms a toilet and shower room, a kitchen, a living room and a conservatory.

The owners want to extensively change the bungalow so the semi detached house can be created, which involves building a part single storey, part two storey extension and subdividing the home.

Curiously, they have not applied to demolish their current house, but a garage and outbuilding will be flattened so that the conversion can take place.

Once completed, the two properties within the home will each have three double bedrooms, one of which being ensuite, a bathroom with toilet, and the usual kitchen and living facilities downstairs (which will also have a toilet).

There would be two car parking spaces each for the occupants.

The owners of Poplar Farm in Cranbourne have applied to demolish a farm shack and replace it with a home gym.

The gym building itself will be a modern replica of the shack being knocked down, according to the design and access statement submitted in the plan.

The new gym will be ‘state of the art’ and have two floors, with exercise machines and a shower room on the ground floor and a yoga/pilates studio on the first floor.

The application for the gym forms part of the wider development of Poplars Farm.

In 2018, developers won approval to build a new home on the site, which is currently under construction (reference 18/01034/FUL).

A separate application for another new home at Poplars Farm was submitted in October (reference 21/01005/FUL).

The owners of Old Gamekeepers Cottage in Milkingbarn Lane, Arborfield have applied to replace the existing  three bedroom home with a four bedroom one.

This would involve demolishing the current home and a garage so the new, larger home can be built in its place.

A planning statement prepared for the application states the current home is “not really suitable for modern family accommodation” due to it having a “cramped nature” and being “poorly-designed and laid out.”

The new home would have our double bedrooms, two with ensuites, a family bathroom and a small home office.

The Old Gamekeepers Cottage is within the Farley Farms & Estate, which is owned by Viscount Bearsted, who lives in Farley Hall.

The planning statement says the cottage used to be owned by the gamekeeper, who has since moved elsewhere in Arborfield.

The owner of Cutbush Manor in Shinfield has applied to rennovate their kitchen, replace a chimney pot and do work to the guttering of the home.

They have argued that the kitchen, last rennovated in  2004, is ” in a bad state of repair” and they want to replace  the chipboard units and worktops with solid oak units and a new worktop.

Cutbush Manor is a Grade II listed farmhouse which dates back to the 16th century.

Because of its listed status, the owner has had to submit a Heritage Statement with the application outlining the impact the works may have on the character of the home.
