A HEARTBROKEN family says there is no support for people in foster care after a young girl took her own life following her dad's death.

Sammy Joe Williams from Bracknell was 22-years-old when she died and a fundraiser has been set up in her name to give her a "beautiful send off".

Her cousin said "mental health got the better of her" after having no support when she left foster care at 18.

She died on Thursday, October 28.

Her cousin Alice Malcolm said she suffered with mental health, especially after the death of her father who she looked up to.

Bracknell News:

Alice said: "She was quite a lost girl. Mental health got the better of her and the social care system let her down. There is no support network for people coming out of care. These children are vulnerable. I still lived with my mum and dad at 18. You can see she needed that support.

"Sammy dedicated everything to her dad, she always wanted approval from him. He was quite strict and was a big believer in routine and that routine wasn't kept after he died."

Alice explained how Sammy was a popular girl and took pride in her appearance.

She said: "She wanted to go and do care work -- she had that caring nature. She was a popular girl and always had nice things. If you stood on her trainer she'd say 'I'll kill you!'. She always made sure her hair looked good. It's just so sad.

"There needs to be support put in place for kids who come out of care."

Alice and her partner David Vince have set up a fundraiser for Sammy Joe's funeral and want to give her a beautiful send off.

Alice said they hope to have colourful flowers and play Professor Green's Lullaby song, as the lyrics resonates with Sammy and her father.

A video will also be played sharing photos of Sammy Joe and her brilliant TikTok dances.
