Richard and Thomas Whitty

Senior software engineer Richard Whitty and his brother Thomas grew £45,000 worth of cannabis in his bedroom.

A court heard how Richard Whitty, of Lowestoft Drive, Slough, had a tent set up in his house after his brother, Thomas, came to him asking him to set it up.

Despite initially refusing his brother’s plans, Thomas got his way and 54 cannabis plants were planted in the tent.

It was estimated that these plants would have a street value of £45,000 if they had been allowed to grow to their full size.

Sentencing, Her Honour Judge Campbell acknowledged Richard’s refusal in setting up the cannabis farm but also highlighted that he did not report his brother to the police.

The elder brother was also convicted of the attempted murder of a 33-year-old man.

During their trial, Neil Moore, prosecuting, told a jury at Reading Crown Court there had been bad blood between the Anderson and Black families for a long time.

He claimed animosity had been heightened in the weeks before the violence.

An ITV report from 2012 read: “Following the murder, the Andersons left the scene of the crime and went their own way without Mr Robinson and were heard by numerous witnesses boasting about stabbing the victim.

“After murdering Mr Lock, they went on a violent spree assaulting two other men before being apprehended by police in the early hours of the next morning, 17 March 2012.

“Both Andersons have been found guilty of actual bodily harm on their third victim, a

passerby on the evening of the murder.”
