DRIVERS are calling for a review into parking rules outside a parade of shops in Ascot.

Mel Dibley claims the current parking restrictions deter residents from supporting local businesses in Hermitage Parade.

Cars are only allowed to be parked for one hour with no return within three hours.

There are a number of shops which offer services where you’d have to be parked for longer than an hour.

This includes Johnson’s for key cutting, shoe repairs, to the vets where appointments may take longer than an hour.

Mel wrote on the public Change.org petition: “We understand this type of rule is to prohibit drivers from parking for a full hour, then moving to a different space to extend their stay, however, it is a massive deterrent if trying to support local retail & impractical in many ways.

“You put keys in for cutting or shoes into repair at Johnsons/Timpsons, they advise to come back in a couple of hours - this would result in a £100 ticket

“You drop somebody off at Eman and say you will pick them up when finished - anything over an hour but less than 3 hours from then would result in a £100 ticket

“You pop to pick up a carpet order/rug and its not ready so pop back an hour later would result in a fine.

“You get dropped off at the vets, carrying pet in a carrier and are then picked up a couple of hours later - would result in a fine.

“You share a car with a family member - they park and go to the dry cleaners, you take the same car out a couple of hours later and go to the chiropractor - do you check where one another parked beforehand ? Unlikely - so this would result in a £100 ticket.”

So far, 23 people have signed the petition calling for a review into the ‘unfair’ parking restriction times.

Amy Grad is one of those who have signed the petition, after she fined £60 for overstaying the parking space by four minutes.

She said: “We would like to support our local shops but after receiving a £60 fine for over staying my parking space by 4 minutes at 5pm when the car park was three quarters empty has and will put me off.”

Mel added: “So how is any of this beneficial for residents, retailers and our commitment to supporting local? Please review the rules to make fair for all.”
