For this week’s nostalgia, we are looking back to the summer of 1977 when the Binfield carnival came to town.

That year, thousands of people from all over Berkshire visited the town to take part in the festivities, which saw beauty queens on show, clowns and general tomfoolery, as residents across the county enjoyed the sunshine 44 years ago.

One of the talking points was the decrease in procession floats, as there were only 20 entries, which was a large drop from the previous year.

However, this didn’t stop people from turning up, as children were spotted having face paints, dogs were seen enjoying the attention and local sports club dressed up as jesters to give everyone some summer cheer.
