A WARNING has been issued about a scam targetting residents to enter a fake competition.

Last night, locals received messages from a Facebook account purporting to be from The Lexicon shopping centre in Bracknell.

Residents shared the 'dodgy' looking message they received prompting others not to fall for the scam.

The message from 'TheLexiconbracknell' said: "Congratulations, you have been selected as the winner of a £100 gift card! Follow the instructions below to get your reward: 1. Register here https://tinyurl.com/TheLexiconBracknell."

Once you click on the link it takes you to a fake page which says '£100 to spend at The Bull Bracknell, Nandos, Fuego or Wagamama' with a message saying 'you have 10 minutes to register."

One resident replied to the scam asking why they need her bank details to register if she has already won the voucher, to which the scammer replied: "The credit card is only for delivery costs to your home, because prizes are sent using a delivery service and shipping costs are the responsibility of the winner. Shipping cost £2"

Bosses at The Lexicon explained that this type of scam is "all too common occurrence."

Sue Boor, head of marketing at The Lexicon, said: "Unfortunately, scammers and spam on social media platforms is an all too common occurrence.

“As soon as we were alerted to this latest scam, we notified our followers and also reported the fake profiles to Facebook, so they can be taken down.”
