A DISGRUNTLED neighbour has been left angered at plans for Tesco to make deliveries at 3am.

David Valentyne from Bracknell raised concerns about the noise delivery trucks will make in the early hours of the morning.

Tesco in Warfield has applied to make deliveries at its superstore in County Lane until 3am.

Currently, deliveries can only begin at 5am. A covering letter as part of the application, written by Redline Planning, states: “These extended delivery hours will Tesco to bring a delivery to the store two hours earlier than present.

"This will help guarantee product availability and make the store more attractive for customers when it is open for trading.”

Bracknell Forest Council have posted the full planning request on their website with a noise assessment attached.

The document explains that since the lifting of delivery curfews following the Covid-19 pandemic, Tesco has been taking deliveries outside of 3am time permitted and 'it is understood that Tesco has not received any noise complaints in relation to the delivery activity."

However Mr Valentyne doesn't seem to think the noise tests are acceptable after having to 'fight with the manager at 5.30am to stop work being done at the petrol station."

He said: "Why are they notifying residents three weeks after the planning request? Apparently noise levels tests completed are acceptable. Have they considered the noise these big trucks will make on the approach to the back door? Will noise levels rise when trucks are queuing? Will levels rise when doors open and shut, breakdown service or support vehicles. If they take a detour around the minor roundabouts at 3 am?

"Just the other day I had to fight with the manager at 5.30 am to ask to stop the work being done at the petrol forecourt. Tesco have little interest to operate within normal business hours. If you feel your sleep is important and want to enjoy that until a normal hour of 7am, please join me and object."

Tesco has explained in their application why delivery hours should be extended.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re always looking for better ways to serve our customers and earlier delivery times would help us make sure shelves are fully stocked and ready for customers when we open in the morning.”
