STAFF at an activity centre have reassured visitors their lake is safe following reports of 'youngsters becoming ill'.

Horseshoe Lake in Sandhurst updated residents on using the water during the spells of hot weather.

Social media reports online claims 'some young people had become ill after being around the Horseshoe Lake site'.

As such, the site has reassured residents over how often the water is tested to ensure people are safe when visiting.

They said: "Our lake’s water is tested monthly using an external laboratory, who usually give us results within a couple of days, and will tell us if there is anything that we need to be aware of. If for any reason we feel as though the water quality is not to standard, we will cease any activities where customers maybe effected and test weekly until it returns to a safe level.

"Horseshoe Lake is a controlled body of water, meaning that have unless you have booked to use the lake through Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre, then entry to the water is prohibited. Our staff always relay this message to anybody who enters the water without permission."

They explain how the cases of people becoming ill could be linked to Black Water River, which is close to Horseshoe Lake.

Adding: "We cannot vouch for the river’s water quality. We strongly advise that people do not enter un-supervised bodies of water due to the associated risks of accident or illness.

"May we take this opportunity to ask that no one enters the water at Horseshoe Lake without booking onto one of our sessions."
