The event will mark the Wokingham borough's first in-person pride parade, and its second pride event overall.

A spokesman said: "Wokingham Borough is proud to host its first ever Wokingham Pride Picnic to support and celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.

"The event will welcome local people in unity and solidarity, enjoying the day in love and friendship.

"Taking place on Saturday 10 July, the celebrations will commence at 11.30am with a group photo outside Wokingham Town Hall, capturing moments of joy and peace.

"The festivities will then be followed a midday gathering at Elms Field.

"Visitors are invited to bring their own picnic or check out one of the independent businesses in the town centre.

"To prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Wokingham Pride team is overseeing the developing guidance on gatherings.

"To ensure the day is a success, picnic goers are reminded to dispose of their litter appropriately, placing rubbish in one of the nearby bins or taking it home with them.

"Spreading the message far and wide, Wokingham Borough Council will raise a rainbow flag signalling its support to LGBTQ+ rights. Flying the flag is an important mark of inclusivity, making discrimination and intolerance a thing of the past."
