A series of planning applications in the Bracknell and Wokingham areas have been submitted and decided on this week.

Bracknell Forest Council’s planning committee met in a reduced capacity to decide on three plans, the biggest of which was allowing a US TV studio to film a WW2 drama in Swinley Forest.

The meeting took place in person in the council chamber on Thursday, July 2.

Although the committee typically has 18 members, a reduced committee of five members met to decide on the plans, which were previously discussed at an advisory meeting on Thursday, June 17.

A US Film TV studio has won permission to film a WW2 drama in Swinley Forest.

The film company will use the forest as a makeshift prisoner of war camp.

A total of 15 temporary shacks will be built in the forest for filming, 13 of which will be contained in a temporary fence.

The TV studio has permission to use the land for 12 months, with filming itself set to take place over four weeks.

Campaigners oppposed the plan, arguing that filming would have a significant impact on the Green Belt

The land must be returned to its original state once filming has taken place. You can find out more here.

The owners of Kenrick bungalow in Chavey Down Road, Winkfield Row have failed in their bid to build an annexe for a disabled family member.

The annexe would have provided a bedroom, living room, kitchenette and wet room for the new occupant.

However the planning committee rejected the plan on the basis of its size. Cllr Moira Gaw, who joined the meeting virtually, stated that the council’s policy is that “front extensions should be small in footprint relative to the local building”.

Cllr Tony Virgo said that the extension represented a 50 per cent increase in the footprint of Kenrick, implying that he did not think the extension was ‘subordinate’.

Failed application for building in Bracknell garden to be used for music lessons (21/00224/FUL)

Here, the applicants wanted to use a prefabricated garden building for use for as a place to teach music classes and for the general use of the applicants.

Planning officer Olivia Jones told the committee that the building has been put up but music lessons are not taking place.

The classes would have been run in 45 minute sessions on weekdays.

Although the council’s planning officers recommended that the plan be approved, it was rejected unanimously by the committee over fears over increased traffic and the ‘unneighbourly’ nature of the development.
