A number of plans have been submitted to BRACKNELL and WOKINGHAM borough councils this week.

Two plans have been submitted for the village of Hurst in Wokingham borough. There is one controversial plan to build four new homes on a field, and another to continue to use a field to keep animals and for recreational use.

Meanwhile, in Bracknell, Newbold College has applied for external and internal adjustments to Moor Close, which is Grade II listed.

Demolition of garage to make way for homes in Wokingham (211609)

Here, the applicants want to get rid of an existing garage to make way for three two-storey terraced homes on land to the rear of 74-76 Barkham Road.

The new homes would be accessed via Bucks Copse, with planning documents showing five new driveways.

Each house would come with two ensuite bedrooms, standard kitchen and living room facilities and a garden.

Here, the applicants want to build two four-bedroom homes and two semi detached three-bedroom homes on land at the junction of Sawpit Road and School Road in Hurst.

The two four-bedroom homes would have a separate building for a garage and a home office. The developers have stated: “These will not operate on a commercial basis, but cater for the increasing number of employees that now choose to work from home rather than commute every day. This is both energy saving and brought to prominence by the current pandemic.”

The plan has proven controversial as it would involve building on green land. Vehicles would access the site using Sawpit Road.

St Nicholas Hurst Parish Council has called for the plan to be refused due to concerns over wildlife that uses the land, and poor access and visibility on roads which already have “existing highways issues”.

Here, the owners of the land have applied to continue using it to exercise animals and for storage.

The land has been used by the applicants to to keep two horses and a goat, as well as a place to exercise their pet dogs.

It has also been used to keep containers for the owning family, and for recreational activities such as bonfires, camping and even driving vehicles.

The owners have had to apply to continue to use the land in these ways.

Application for a certificate of existing lawful development for the mixed use comprising keeping of horses, other animals, recreational use and storage use.

Bracknell Forest 

Changes to historic Newbold College building (21/00446/LB)

Newbold College wants to make changes to its Moor Close building, which is Grade II listed.

The College has applied to get rid of its redundant external fire escapes and put the escape stairway inside. It has also applied to make changes inside Moor Close to form a new meeting room and toilets. 

Newbold College is a Seventh Day Adventist Christian institution. The Moor Close building dates back to 1864/5, and has undergone a number of renovations since 2019.

Planned expansion to home in Bracknell (21/00470/FUL)

Here, the applicants want to get rid of the current one storey side extension to their home to make way for a two storey extension to the front and rear of the property, as well as placing in a new metre high garden wall.

The extension will allow the owners to build a new family room, living room and open plan kitchen and dining room on the ground floor, and a new master bedroom with an ensuite upstairs.
