This week we take a look back at the Wokingham Millennium May Fayre from May 2000, as well as the Bracknell Half Marathon from the same year.

The May Fayre draws crowds of thousands every year, with hundreds of stalls, street entertainers, bands, competitions and fundraising activities keeping visitors entertained.

Organised by the Wokingham Lions’ Club, it aims to raise money for various local charities and provide a fun day out for children and adults alike.

We have also unearthed photos from the May 2000 Bracknell Half Marathon, which saw Garth Hill School teacher Vincent Garner win for the second time in the men’s category, while Lesley Wiley also took a second win in the ladies’ race.

A total 560 adults and 88 youngsters took part in the challenging 13-mile race while spectators basked in the sunshine at South Hill Park in Birch Hill as temperatures soared.
