42 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, data from Public Health England shows.

Public Health England has recorded 42 new lab-confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of Tuesday, May 25, at 4.16pm bring the latest total for the county to 57,386 cases.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 3 cases, 7,127 total

Wokingham -9 cases, 8,352 total

Reading - 13 cases, 11,091 total

West Berkshire - 3 cases, 6,531 total

Windsor and Maidenhead - 3 cases, 8,575 total

Slough - 11 cases, 15,700

There have now been 4,467,310 people across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19 - a daily increase of 2,493.

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 4.9

Reading - 37.1

Wokingham - 28.1

Slough - 28.8

West Berkshire - 34.1

Windsor and Maidenhead - 12.5

In today's national Covid news 

The Government said a further 15 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 127,739.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 153,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 2,493 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,467,310.

Government data up to May 24 shows that of the 61,420,928 jabs given in the UK so far, 38,192,417 were first doses – a rise of 122,379 on the previous day.

Some 23,228,511 were second doses, an increase of 332,955.
