Organisers of a ‘mini festival’ in Henley  have applied for drinks, music, and dance permits ahead of a new event in July.

Henley Festival’s ‘Summer Fling’ will be taking place prior to the much bigger Henley Festival in September as organisers are putting on two separate events this year.

The ‘Summer Fling’ is a smaller affair than the regular festival. Nevertheless, there is likely to be a lot of excitement, with live music, dancing, street food and more.

Celebrity DJs Martin Kemp, Jo Whiley and Trevor Nelson are all headlining, along with support from ska band Maroon Town, Johnny Cash Converters, a tribute act with a twist, and ‘surf rockers’ the Bikini Beach band.

The  ‘Summer Fling’  is a licenced event, and must therefore apply for a licence for its activities. Although Henley itself is in South Oxfordshire, the festival site is actually located in Remenham, which falls within Wokingham Borough. Therefore the organisers have had to apply for a temporary entertainment licence from Wokingham Borough Council.

They aim to have live music, recorded music, dance performances from 5.30pm to 11pm on each day of the festival’s three days, running from Thursday, July 8, to Saturday, July 10.

Last orders for drinks will be slightly earlier, at 10.45pm on each day.

Those who wish to comment on the planned licence must do so by Friday, May 21.

To make a representation, email to licensing@wokingham.gov.uk or send a letter to the Licensing Team, Wokingham Borough Council, Shute End, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 1BN.

Representations must include your full name and address, and we suggest you include a telephone number and email address. You can quote licence application PR0498.

The main Henley Festival has been postponed to Wednesday, September 15, to Sunday, September 19. Singer songwriter James Blunt and ska band Madness are headlining this year.

The organisers will have to put in a separate licensing application for the main festival prior to its September dates.
