A WOKINGHAM resident is going to take on the 100km journey from London to Brighton, in order to support organisations helping those with mental health needs.

Steve Butler, Wokingham resident, originally planned to make the journey in 2020, but the event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

He now plans to take on the challenge at the end of this month, starting on Saturday, May 29, and is currently collecting money for the run, which is to be donated to mental health helpline Samaritans.

He said: “Assuming we don't count school sports days, I think I've been running for about ten years.

“Knowing the unique and vital work Samaritans do every hour, 365 days a year, it seems perfectly natural to want to raise some funds for my local branch.

"This run just gives me the opportunity to give a little bit more support to our wonderful local branch.

“I originally intended to run last year but unfortunately the race was cancelled due to Covid 19.

"Fingers crossed and roadmap permitting, the run will now take place this year on the Bank Holiday weekend starting on 29 May.

"The course starts in Richmond-upon-Thames, then takes its route across the North Downs, over the South Downs, and finally towards the Brighton coastline with the finish at Brighton race course.”
