Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been widely criticised for an alleged outburst in which he is reported to have said : “No more ****ing lockdowns – let the bodies pile high in their thousands!”

The alleged comments surfaced in The Mail on Sunday, with the Prime Minister’s team denying Mr Johnson made the comment, stating it is “just another lie.”

The allegations have led us to find out exactly how many people have died with coronavirus in Berkshire since the pandemic began.

So far, a total of 1,756 people have died with coronavirus in Berkshire. That is according to official figures compiled on the Public Health for Berkshire Covid-19 Dashboard.

The local area with the highest number of deaths of people after testing positive for coronavirus has been recorded in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, where 350 people have died with the illness according to te latest figures.

The area with the lowest number of coronavirus deaths in Berkshire has been recorded in Bracknell Forest, where 186 people have lost their lives after testing positive since the pandemic began.

Here are the numbers of coronavirus deaths in each area of Berkshire, from highest to lowest, according to figures from the Public Health for Berkshire Covid-19 Dashboard:

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead – 350 deaths

Slough – 340 deaths

Wokingham – 317 deaths

Reading – 313 deaths

West Berkshire – 250 deaths

Bracknell Forest – 186 deaths

That adds up to a total of 1,756 people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Berkshire.

These figures are correct up to Friday, April 9, 2021. So far, a total of 56,483 positive coronavirus cases have been recorded in Berkshire.  That means approximately 3.1 per cent of people who have caught coronavirus have died from it in the county.

The first official recorded death of a person with coronavirus in the United Kingdom was reported in Reading.

On March 5, 2020, it was announced that a woman in her 70s who had been admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital had died after testing positive for Covid-19.
