The Wokingham Borough Council said that during the construction period parking spaces will be reduced, however once completed the site will hold a total of 491 spaces - this is 100 more car spaces than before.

Andy Glencross, assistant director for highways, said: “These works will both improve the visual appeal of the area and provide additional capacity to allow even more residents to make use of the nearby transport links available.

“Vehicle emissions remains one of the largest contributors to our borough’s carbon footprint.

"Providing attractive and easy to access public transport services into nearby towns like Reading will help us reduce this.”

The council added that the project, set to be complete by Spring 2022, will feature additional lighting, pedestran waiting areas and a newly paved pedestrian link between the car park and the station.

Bob Mountain, vice chair of the Berkshire Local Transport Body and board director at Thames Valley Berkshire LEP said, “The scheme at Winnersh Triangle aligns well with local, LEP, and national strategic priorities to encourage sustainable travel, reduce congestion, and support growth.
