WORRIED residents in Ascot are campaigning for road safety improvements to “prevent a tragedy” from happening at a local junction.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council is being called upon to review two roads in Ascot to keep pedestrians safer when crossing the road.

One woman who had commented on the petition believes Kennel Avenue and the A322 needs investigating before an accident happens.
Ascot resident and dog walker Sarah Walker said: “There is an urgent need now for a pedestrian crossing to help people cross the road from the end of Kennel Avenue to gain access to the Heath (next to Ascot race course).
“Traffic drives very fast along this road and every day we struggle to cross safely with our dog.
“It is only a matter of time before a serious accident happens here.
She claims she nearly saw a boy get hit by a car when attempting to cross the road on his bicycle.

The petition says: “Now more than ever we need a pedestrian crossing here to help people cross the road safely.
“With the increased numbers of people using the Heath this problem has escalated and needs urgent attention.
“I urge you to sign this petition and prevent a tragedy.”
As of April 20, 111 people have signed the petition calling for a pedestrian crossing.
A council spokesman said: “We take road safety matters very seriously. There is a clear process for reviewing petitions and this particular one closes on October 12.
“We have a dedicated team of experts that review these matters with an annual programme of improvements based on the evidence and their recommendations.”
